This brief tutorial will show how to use the Lower Thirds with Vegas Video.
We used Version 3, so if you have version 4 or 5 some of the options or terminology
may have changed, but the concept will remain the same.
Firstly put your footage on one track and your lower third directly beneath it. See example below

If you play a preview all you'll see is the footage since it's higher up on Vegas' timeline. We're going to crop out part of the bottom of the footage revealing the lower third under it by RIGHT CLICKING on the footage and select Video Event Pan/Crop. See image below.

The Pan/Crop window will appear and it will look something like the image below with your FOOTAGE in the middle.

Firstly, make sure your LOCK ASPECT RATIO button is pressed in as shown below.

Now on the left under Source is "Stretch to fill frame" You should uncheck that as shown below.

Now you're ready to crop out the footage. Press and hold ALT and grab the bottom left square handle of the footage. See below.

Keep the left mouse button pressed and carefully move the mouse upwards. In your preview window you'll see the lower third being revealed. See below.

Find the height of the lower third and you're done! It might help to press CTRL as well as ALT to 'snap' whilst dragging. As always - experimentation is key to getting your desired result.
