This brief tutorial will show how to use the Globes Collection's alpha channel with Vegas Video. We used Version 3, so if you have version 4 or 5 some of the options or terminology may have changed, but the concept will remain the same.

Firstly put your globe on one track and your footage or still bitmap directly beneath it. See example below

 

 

If you play a preview all you'll see is the globe since it's higher up on Vegas' timeline and you haven't told the sequence to use the alpha channel. So let's indicate to Vegas Video that we want the globe to use the embedded alpha channel.

 

To do this right click on the globe and select Properties - See image below.

 

The Properties box will appear. Now left click on the MEDIA tab at the top of the dialog box.

 

The bottom choice is Alpha Channel. Click the pull-down tab and select "Straight (unmatted)" then click okay. See image below.

And that's it. You'll notice the globe shown in the timeline has checkered squares in it. That's the area that will be removed to reveal the footage or still underneath it. See final image below.
