This brief tutorial will show how to use the Lower Thirds with Vegas Video
using the chromakeyer. This method is suitable for uniform thirds with little
to no black in the actual third. We used Vegas Version 5 for this tutorial,
so if you have a later version some of the options or terminology may have changed,
but the concept will remain the same.
Firstly put your footage on one track and your lower third directly beneath it. See example below

If you play a preview all you'll see is the footage since it's higher up on Vegas' timeline. We're going to key out the black of the third revealing the footage under it by RIGHT CLICKING on the lower third and selecting Video Event FX... See image below.

The Plug In Chooser window will appear and it will look something like the image below. Select Sony Chroma Keyer and hit OK.

Select the eye dropper tool. See below

Now move the cursor up to the third on the timeline and left click in the upper black portion. You're telling the keyer you want to remove the black colored area.

It's now just a case of tweaking the black out. A 'Low threshold' of around .300 works great.

That's it! As always experimentation is key to getting the best key.
